CoasterChat is a design exploration of asynchronous digital communication, embedded in a daily coffee routine, to promote social interaction between people with early dementia and their families.
People with dementia living at home often experience difficulties participating in social interactions, while staying in touch with family improves their life experience. Initiating communication can be challenging for families, as there is a natural disparity between their life patterns and those of people with dementia. In this project we designed CoasterChat, a design exploration of asynchronous digital communication, embedded in a daily coffee routine to promote social interaction between people with early dementia and their families. CoasterChat consists of a rotating coaster (which reminds the family members to share their life moments with the person with dementia) and a coaster holder (which guides the person with dementia to play and reply to the message during his/her coffee break).
